Memoir Writing
For this class, we focused on writing about ourselves. We chronicled tales about certain times in our lives, adventures we have had, and objects that mean something to us. For this class I particularly enjoyed creating a polished piece about the advent of an extremely difficult time period for me.
Theories of Writing
In this class, we read a new paper each week and used a physical journal to respond to prompts given by the professor. We learned a lot, but mostly focused on how our own theory of writing has evolved, and what it means to us. In the final project of Theories of Writing we completed a piece that involved and introduction and five different genres of writing. I enjoyed creating the piece and getting to use non-conventional methods.
History of Rhetoric
For this class we studied the historical works of many great rhetoricians. Much of the class revolved around a course blog which we updated every week. Students spent time reading and responding to each other’s course blog. In my favorite piece from this class, I analyzed Tweets from two of my favorite comedians, Brandon Wardell and Stavros Halkias. This was an attempt to use the historical background to formulate my own rhetoric.
Computer Security
In this class we learned the basic principles of computer security. Password hashing, SQL injections and discussions of cybercrime fueled the class. The main assignment for the class was a ten-page research paper. I chose to write my research paper on the darknet, as that is relevant to my current career.
Social Science of Virtual Spaces
In this class we examined many technological pieces of different works. Much of the class was spent learning about non-traditional rhetoric, such as cyber feminism. The main projects of the class were creating a cultural piece (I 3-D printed mine) and creating a fictional story line.
